About V-RAAM

Alberta’s Virtual Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (V-RAAM) is a program of Recovery Alberta offering fully virtual treatment for non-opioid addictions.

Because opioid dependency requires intensive medication management, individuals wanting help with opioids in addition to other addictions will be re-directed to an opioid dependency program that can provide all their addictions care, such as the Virtual Opioid Dependency Program.

The V-RAAM team consists of Addiction Medicine Physicians, Nurses, Addictions Counsellors, Mental Health Therapists, Social Workers and professional support staff.

What to Expect?

  1. When you phone 1-844-383-7688, press option 2 and you will speak to support staff who will take your information. An intake nurse will phone you back to complete a full addictions assessment.
  2. Depending on the urgency of the care required, you can expect an appointment with an Addiction Medicine Physician the same day, the next day or within a week. This appointment will be completed via secure Zoom video assessment.
  3. If withdrawal management is required, you can expect daily follow up from the V-RAAM team from Monday to Friday.
  4. If no withdrawal management is required, or when withdrawal management is completed, V-RAAM ongoing care will be discussed, taking into consideration any community supports you may already have. For more details about V-RAAM ongoing care, please visit the Services page. You will be assigned a V-RAAM Case Manager and a V-RAAM Addiction Medicine Physician to meet with you on an ongoing basis until you have community supports in place to take over your addictions care.

Individuals living in Calgary and surrounding area will be directed to Calgary’s Rapid Access Addiction Medicine clinic which offers similar services as well as an in-person option.
